CM Sai Explores Singapore’s Wildlife Model to Give Chhattisgarh Eco-Tourism a Global Push

Raipur/Singapore: Chhattisgarh is looking to draw from global wildlife conservation and eco-tourism practices to strengthen its own tourism potential. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai visited the Mandai Wildlife Reserve in Singapore and reviewed its systems for wildlife conservation, habitat management and visitor facilities.
During the visit, Chief Minister Sai, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, observed the reserve’s approach to combining wildlife protection with tourism. The visit formed part of Sai’s Singapore programme, where he is participating in the first Singapore-India Network for Growth (SING) Forum 2026.
Chhattisgarh’s forests offer strong eco-tourism potential
Nearly 44 per cent of Chhattisgarh’s geographical area is covered by forests. From Bastar to Surguja, the state has extensive forests, rich biodiversity, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that provide a strong foundation for nature-based tourism.
The government is exploring ways to connect these natural assets with improved tourism infrastructure and greater participation of local communities, while keeping conservation at the centre of development.
Global experience to be adapted to local conditions
At Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Sai studied wildlife conservation practices, visitor experience, management systems and awareness activities. He emphasised that Chhattisgarh should develop its own eco-tourism model based on its unique geography, forests and biodiversity.
The Chief Minister said that Singapore’s model would not be replicated mechanically. Instead, successful practices and experiences would be adapted to suit Chhattisgarh’s local requirements and ecological conditions.
Bastar, Kanger Valley and other destinations in focus
Regions such as Bastar, Kanger Valley, Achanakmar, Indravati and Udanti-Sitanadi showcase the state’s natural tourism potential. Better coordination between conservation, modern visitor facilities and local participation could help Chhattisgarh strengthen its position on the national and international eco-tourism map.
The Mandai visit has provided Chhattisgarh with an opportunity to study an internationally recognised wildlife tourism model and explore how similar principles can be adapted to the state’s own natural landscape.
