State-Level Programme on ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ to Be Held on August 14

The Department of Culture, Government of Chhattisgarh, will organise a state-level programme on ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ on August 14 to commemorate the pain, displacement and struggle endured by countless families during the Partition of India and to acquaint the younger generation with this important chapter of history.

The programme will be held at 12:30 pm at the Open-Air Theatre in the Directorate of Archaeology premises, near Lok Bhawan, Civil Lines, Raipur. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai will be the chief guest.

Culture Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal will preside over the programme, while Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap will attend as the special guest. Renowned filmmaker and actor Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi will be the keynote speaker.

Discussion to Focus on Pain of Partition and Human Struggle

The state-level programme will recall the memories of displacement, suffering and struggle experienced by millions of people during the Partition of India in 1947. The objective is to present the tragedy of Partition before the younger generation not merely as a historical event, but also through the struggles, courage and indomitable spirit of affected families who rebuilt their lives.

A special exhibition and commemorative programmes focusing on the horrors of Partition and the circumstances of that period will also be organised. Speakers representing the Sindhi, Punjabi, and Bengali communities affected by Partition will share memories and experiences of their families and communities.

A large number of school and college students will attend, providing them an opportunity to understand this chapter of history and the human suffering associated with Partition more closely.

Keynote speaker Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi is known for presenting Indian history, culture and literature through cinema and television. Dr Dwivedi, who gained nationwide recognition through the popular television series ‘Chanakya’, also directed the acclaimed film ‘Pinjar’, set against the backdrop of the Partition of India. He will share his views on the historical and social background of Partition, its human tragedy and the memories associated with it.

Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur Vice-Chancellor Shri Sachchidanand Shukla will also address the programme.
